The Word of God tells us a lot about the heart of man. It is filled with evil thoughts and actions even when we want to do good. However, God has promised a new heart to replace the human heart. God wants us to have a pure heart and to walk in His ways. I know that even with the Holy Spirit dwelling within me, I still find it difficult at times to be Christ-like.
My spiritual life is constantly battling evil things from my heart of hearts. I struggle in my walk but will not give up on Christ Jesus because I know He has not given up on me. This is a Bible study on what the heart of man is. The heart is more than a physical heart in the spiritual world as God knows we are more than our outward appearance.
God looks beyond our outward appearance and our physical heart. He can see the person He knows we are and will be. This all-knowing God knows all that we have done and loves us. God’s word promises us that no matter what we have done God will still love us. There is nothing in the world that separates us from His love.
Let’s dive into a Bible study on what the heart of man is. We will discuss the heart, and what troubles the heart. We will review how the heart works, why it is evil, and how it can become a clean heart. Finally, we will learn as human beings what drives our evil deeds and also the good treasure of every heart.
nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39 ESV
The Physical Heart
The heart of every man is part physical made up of a muscle with four chambers with valves that ensure blood flows in the correct direction. The primary goal of the heart is to pump oxygenated blood to the body and deoxygenated blood to the lungs. The heart brings life-saving blood flowing throughout the body. This organ in our chest is the central component of the circulatory system controlled by electrical impulses to maintain a regular heartbeat. God makes our heart steadfast and allows it to make a melody as it beats in our chest.
Our whole heart was made by and for God. Its purpose was more than keeping us alive. The heart has a spiritual part that leads to eternal life. God has a heart and He gave us a heart. Hence, we are made in God’s image. God’s heart is filled with love, compassion, mercy and grace. Man has a sinful heart after Adam disobeyed God. However, we should strive every day to have a heart like God. A heart filled with love, mercy, and grace. This same love, mercy, and grace should be shared with others throughout our day. Unfortunately, this is not always possible because we have a troubled heart.
My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! Psalm 57:7 ESV
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 ESV
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— Romans 5:12 ESV
The Troubled Heart
Since Adam, Mankind has had a troubled heart, man’s heart has been like a heart of stone. He has continued to disobey God’s will and sinned against God. In the Old Testament God begs His people to return to Him. God wants them to turn their hearts from disobedience and sin. However, Man’s stubborn and proud heart would not allow him to return to God. Everything he did was right in his own eyes and his evil conscience would not allow him to follow God. Therefore, God plans to give Man a new heart to replace their heart of stone. A soft heart led by the right spirit so mankind could live in paradise with God.
I don’t understand why God would love us so much to devise a plan to save us and not let us perish. However, I trust God and His ways. God is so good that He cannot exist where sin abounds. However, He would not walk away from His creation. The apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8:39 that nothing can separate us from God but wickedness must be dealt with.
“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the Lord, “who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; Isaiah 30:1 ESV
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26 ESV
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5 ESV
The Wickedness Of Man
Man has all kinds of wickedness because sin entered the world through Adam. Mankind’s sin knows no bounds, sexual immorality, murder, deceit, evil thoughts, lying, slander, false witness, adultery, and more. A lot of people choose to ignore the condition of our hearts. However, God will not. He plans to bring forth a changed heart, to change the condition of the heart from the inside out.
God wants all mankind to be holy and good men and women, a good man who follows in the steps of our Lord Jesus Christ. God finds no delight in evil. Therefore, we should move beyond being an evil man who follows our ways with stone hearts. God would prefer us to live our lives with the kind of heart filled with the fruit of the spirit. There is no heavenly treasure gained by wickedness. However, unfortunately becoming a good heart from an evil heart will take more. It would take a savior.
However, man must first understand that he needs a savior. No matter the secrets of the heart, God knows it all. Yet, He still loves us. Our Heavenly Father knows everything about us. Yet, He still loves us. We serve a God who wants to reconcile with us. Even though he does not delight in all our wickedness, and wants to love us. To get past all of our digression will take a miracle. It will take a savior and Jesus Christ is His name.
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. Matthew 15:19 ESV
Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. Proverbs 10:2 ESV
For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. Psalms 5:4 ESV
The Plan: Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ was the plan to change man’s heart from stone to one like God’s own heart. Jesus is the Light of God and the only way to salvation. For a man to get to the good treasure of his heart he will need to believe in the promises of God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Word. In the Book Of Proverbs, there are verses about the conditions of the heart.
A wicked heart will lead to bad choices, problems in our relations, and separation from God. However, Jesus is the way back to God. The only way. There is no other way to reconciliation with God. There is no way to the peace that we desire. The heart problem we have cannot be solved on our own. It is through the blood of Jesus Christ. Today Let us walk in the light of Jesus. Amen.
The first step is to confess our sins to God, repent them, and stop sinning. The next step is to believe that Jesus was crucified, died on the cross, and was raised from the dead. He is now seated on the right side of God and will judge the living and the dead.
with perverted heart devises evil, continually sowing discord; Proverbs 6:14 ESV
The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. Matthew 12:35 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 ESV
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 ESV
Walking In The Light
Christian Life requires us to walk in the light of Jesus when dealing with issues in our lives. Jesus illuminates our path and transforms us as we walk in His light through life. Christians are to seek the living God with all our hearts, minds, and our soul. It is time to remove evil ideas from our hearts and replace them with fruit of the spirit. The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness.
Now is the time to align our intentions and thoughts with God’s will. We were commissioned to tell the world about Jesus and the good news of salvation. Walk boldly in the light sharing your testimony with love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness. Tell everyone about the new covenant that saves. This is the good works that God wants us all to do from our hearts.
In him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:4 ESV
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Galatians 5:22 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19 ESV
The Devil Destroys Hearts
Walking in the light will not be easy because the devil and his evil spirits will attack you. They prowl the Earth looking for God’s people to devour. Therefore, the good news will be hard to share while facing trials and tribulations. However, this is when your strength to endure will be because of God. Submit to God and resist the devil.
This is the time to draw close to God as Jesus did. You must find time to pray and ask for strength to make it through. You will find strength in God’s grace and mercy. The peace of God will come upon you and you will be able to fight the giant before you. You will be able to move any mountain. This is the glory of God when we are at our lowest He will carry us. We will make it to the end because the battle has already been won.
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 ESV
And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, Acts 13:32 ESV
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV
King David
King David was described as a man after God’s heart. Even though David had sinned on more than one occasion in his heart he wanted to do the will of God. Throughout the Book of Psalms David prayed, pleaded, and cried out to God to help him. David never wanted to be separated from God. He knew that he needed God.
Therefore, David stayed in prayer and the Word of God. David made a habit of memorizing scripture to avoid sinning against God. There is a lot we can learn from David’s behavior. Even when he sinned he turned to God. Too often in our sin, we try to hide from God like Adam did when he sinned in the Garden of Eden.
David showed us a different way. We should fall on our knees and ask for forgiveness. David knew that he would still have to face the consequences of his actions but knew that as long as God was with him he could make it to the other side. He would survive any threats from the world. God would be right beside him and rescue him from his enemies. If David sinned against God he asked for forgiveness and accepted any punishment from God. We should mirror David.
And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’ Acts 13:22 ESV
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11 ESV
And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” Genesis 3:10 ESV
Heart Transplant
God promised us a new heart. As a child of God, he will keep this promise of a new body, heart, and spirit. On the day of judgment, God will fulfill these promises. There will also be a new earth and a new heaven. Our pain, tears, and fears will all go away. We will live eternally in paradise. All our questions will be answered. We will spend our day in jobs we love, eating the food we love, and worshiping and rejoicing with a God we love.
This is what we have waited for all our lives. To be with a God we believe in and who loves us. A God that has prepared a place for us to be with Him. This place is where we will rest. It will be filled with joy, rejoicing, and worship. It is a place where righteousness will dwell. No evil, hate, wars, sickness, or death will exist. The first heaven and earth will have passed away along with mourning, pain, and all former things.
For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 1 Corinthians 15:53 ESV
In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? John 14:2 ESV
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13 ESV
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4 ESV
Recap of A Bible Study On What The Heart Of Man Is
Sin began when Adam disobeyed God. The relationship between God and mankind was separated by the sin that entered the world. However, God never stopped loving mankind and created a plan for man to be reconciled with God. God sent his one and only son Jesus to die for our sins. The sacrificial system that God created for the Jewish people was only a temporary solution.
The perfect solution was Jesus. Jesus would be the ultimate sacrifice and satisfy the debt of past, present, and future sins. Mankind had only to believe that Jesus was the Messiah who would come to take away the sins of the world. All we have to do is believe. Therefore, because of this sacrifice, we can walk in love. We can love ourselves and others to the core of our being by believing in God. David believed in God.
Like David, we should put complete trust in God. We have a God who is for us not against us. Our God will help us. We have to look up and seek His face. When we do evil we should not run from God but to Him. He knows everything we have done, are doing, and will do. God knows all this about us and He still loves us. God loved us enough that He died for us, and will provide a new heart when we meet in eternity.
And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2 ESV
But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” Psalm 31:14 ESV
He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:2 ESV
